We designed, supplied, and installed a new playground at Wandsworth Park, on the banks of the river Thames, in 2025, to replace the tired existing equipment on site. Working closely with the council we came up with three initial concepts, before finalising and fine tuning the chosen design, to satisfy all the councils demands for this area.
Given the beautiful riverside setting, and natural landscape of Wandsworth park, we felt timber equipment would be perfectly suited to the location, and so opted to include a large, treehouse inspired centrepiece from the Lappset Flora range. This sprawling multiplay activity tower slotted in seamlessly with the surrounding trees, and due to its large size, ensures multiple children can play at any one time, something that is important at a busy site such as this.
The tower has numerous ascents to its upper decks, with a combination of climbing ladders, accessible stairs, arched climbers, ropes, and much more giving users access to all areas of the structure. Two slides, a smaller one at a lower deck level, and the large spiral tube slide from the top platform, give users an exciting route back to the ground to start the fun again.
Continuing in the junior section of the playground, we included a 6 metre tall activity net. All children, especially older children, love to climb, and the top of this net gives them a fantastic vantage point over the park and surrounding areas. Again, the large scale of the structure ensures numerous users can play at any one time, helping support social play and cooperation between children.
For younger children, a large toddler multiplay was installed, with numerous slides, rope bridges, crawl tunnels, and much more ensuring hours of endless fun. This activity tower is complimented by a four seat Polka rotator, cradle swings, a small embankment slide on the adjacent hill, a play panel, and springer.
As with all playgrounds we build, inclusivity is at the heart of our designs to ensure children of all ages and physical abilities can play together. A wheelchair assessable roundabout, sitting flush with the surface level of the park, allows wheelchairs and able bodied children to play together, whilst the swings installed feature a basket swing, and “you and me” swing where children and their parents / carer can swing together.
The surfacing here is a mixture of coloured wet pour rubber, and TigerMulch bound rubber mulch, giving different textures and patterns to the playground, and helping contribute to the pleasant nature of the park.
We loved constructing this playground, working closely with the council, and local stakeholders, to finalise a truly inclusive design that caters to the needs of children of all ages and abilities.
