The new hospital was delivered under the Private Finance Initiative and is a general and teaching hospital with a number of specialist departments. Redlynch Leisure coordinated with the main contractor during the construction stage to create an outdoor play area for the paediatric ward on the third floor. Limited access dictated that all 14 tonnes of material was conveyed to site by hand and barrow through the corridors and lifts of the working hospital. The stimulating FlexiTop wet pour rubber design features a chess board, football area and hopscotch.
